Introduction:
The PE department seeks to develop physically competent and confident individuals. Through our curriculum and meaningful learning experiences, we aim to help students realise the importance of safe participation in physical activities, and the joy of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.
Department Goals:
Our PE education focuses on three learning areas, namely, Physical Activity, Outdoor Education, and Physical Health and Safety. With strong emphasis on, about, and through movement, students are offered innumerable opportunities to participate in physical activities and cooperate with their peers to reinforce learning. In hope of helping our students develop the essential competencies to succeed in our fast-changing world, our lessons are crafted with purposeful assessment and pedagogy.
Physical Education Curriculum Framework
Curriculum and Programmes:
Students in Primary School will learn five content areas, mainly, Athletics, Dance, Games and Sports, Gymnastics, and Swimming. Through these content areas, students are taught fundamental movement skills, movement concepts, along with the transference of these skills and concepts across the various content areas.
As part of the Lower Primary Learning Carnival, our Primary 1 and 2 students explored the world of careers through the lens of sport.
Bowling (Primary 1)
Bowling is more than just a fun and social activity. It provides a meaningful platform for Primary 1 students to develop essential life skills. As they take turns rolling the ball and aiming for the pins, students strengthen their focus, hand-eye coordination, and sportsmanship. Through this hands-on experience, our young learners also discover the importance of setting goals, persevering through challenges, and celebrating personal progress in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment.
Golf (Primary 2)
Primary 2 students were introduced to golf, a sport that offers valuable opportunities for both skill development and character building. Beyond learning the fundamentals of the game, our professional instructors emphasised core values such as patience, integrity, focus, and resilience, helping students appreciate how these qualities extend beyond the sport into their everyday lives.
To provide a safe and engaging learning experience, students practised strokes using specialised swing nets and putting mats. Through hands-on activities in swinging, chipping, and putting, students developed coordination, confidence, and perseverance, while discovering that steady effort and continuous improvement are key to success both in sport and in life.
SwimSafer Programme (Primary 3)
Our Primary 3 students participate in the SwimSafer Programme, where they develop essential swimming competencies and water safety knowledge through a structured and progressive curriculum.
Throughout the programme, students demonstrate courage, discipline, and a positive attitude towards learning as they build confidence in and around the water. Beyond acquiring swimming skills, they learn to assess risks, make safe decisions, and persevere through challenges, fostering resilience and self-confidence.
By equipping students with essential water safety skills and awareness, the SwimSafer Programme empowers them to enjoy water-based activities safely and responsibly while nurturing lifelong confidence in the aquatic environment.
Neighbourhood Walk - Outdoor Education (Primary 4)
Our Primary 4 Outdoor Education (OE) programme empowers students to become confident and responsible explorers through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
The programme begins with foundational trip-planning skills and culminates in an engaging neighbourhood walk and picnic, where students apply their learning in navigation, outdoor living, and risk assessment. Through these authentic experiences, they develop a deeper awareness of their surroundings, strengthen their problem-solving and decision-making skills, and learn to navigate the outdoors safely and responsibly.
By encouraging teamwork, independence, and resilience, the Outdoor Education programme nurtures students' confidence to embrace new experiences while fostering a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.
NAPFA Test (Primary 4 & Primary 6)
Each year, our Primary 4 and Primary 6 students rise to the challenge of the NAPFA test with determination and resilience, demonstrating not only their commitment to physical fitness but also strong self-discipline and perseverance.
Each test station provides an opportunity for students to challenge their physical abilities, build confidence, and cultivate a growth mindset. Beyond the performance outcomes, the experience reinforces the importance of leading an active lifestyle, setting meaningful goals, and striving for personal best.
More importantly, the NAPFA experience encourages students to recognise that progress is achieved through consistent effort, resilience, and perseverance. These values extend beyond the test, empowering our students to develop lifelong habits that support their health, well-being, and personal growth.
P5 Cohort Camp
The Primary 5 Outdoor Adventure Camp is part of MOE's National Outdoor Adventure Education Master Plan. Through this immersive 3-Day, 2-Night experience, students strengthen their holistic development, build resilience and ruggedness, learn about teamwork, and build meaningful peer relationships through authentic outdoor learning.
Throughout the camp, students apply the outdoor competencies, knowledge, skills, and attitudes they have developed in school through activities such as day expeditions, team challenges, and cohort camp tasks. These experiential and increasingly self-directed learning opportunities encourage students to step out of their comfort zones, solve problems collaboratively, and demonstrate adaptability in unfamiliar environments.
Beyond developing outdoor competencies, the camp nurtures students' spirit of adventure, resilience, and self-confidence, while fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural environment and a greater sense of responsibility for one another.
Post-PSLE Interclass Games (Primary 6)
The Post-PSLE Interclass Games provide students with meaningful opportunities to strengthen friendships, embrace inclusivity, and experience the joy of participation through sport. Through carefully selected para-sport-inspired games, students deepen their understanding of game strategies, enhance their spatial awareness, and develop effective communication skills in dynamic team settings.
Beyond developing physical competencies, the programme fosters important values such as teamwork, adaptability, sportsmanship, empathy, and mutual respect. By experiencing modified sports that simulate different physical abilities, students gain a deeper appreciation of the diverse challenges that others may face. These authentic experiences encourage them to be more inclusive, celebrate individual strengths, and support one another in achieving shared goals.
As they participate, students build confidence, resilience, and a stronger sense of belonging while developing meaningful friendships. More importantly, the programme reinforces the importance of empathy, active living, and inclusive participation, inspiring students to value diversity and contribute to a caring and supportive community.
PAMtastic Week (All Levels)
PAMtastic Week (PAM Week) is an exciting interdisciplinary experience where the Physical Education, Art, and Music (PAM) departments collaborate with the English, Mathematics, and Science departments to bring curriculum concepts to life through engaging and meaningful activities.
Anchored in the school's Build-Share-Create-Apply (BSCA) Teaching and Learning Framework, PAM Week encourages students to make authentic connections across disciplines by integrating physical, aesthetic, and auditory experiences with core academic concepts. This holistic approach deepens understanding, sparks curiosity, and inspires students to see how knowledge can be applied across different contexts.
Through a series of interactive games-based booths and hands-on activities, students across all levels are challenged to apply their knowledge creatively, solve problems collaboratively, and express their ideas in meaningful ways. By building on prior learning, sharing ideas, creating solutions, and applying their understanding through play, students strengthen and apply their critical and creative thinking, communication, and collaboration skills while experiencing the joy of interdisciplinary learning.
Ad Hoc Opportunities (Subject to Availability)
2025 World Aquatics Spectating
A group of selected Sports CCA students had the exciting opportunity to spectate world-class aquatic competitions firsthand. The experience provided students with valuable exposure to elite athletes, allowing them to witness the dedication, discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship required to perform at the highest level of international competition.
Beyond the excitement of the event, students gained a deeper appreciation of the values that underpin sporting excellence and were inspired to pursue their own goals with commitment and perseverance. The shared experience also strengthened friendships, fostered team spirit, and created lasting memories, making it a meaningful learning journey beyond the classroom.
